Feb. 13, 2010- Mishka and I have been up since yesterday afternoon delivering puppies. The first one was born yesterday at 3:30 P.M. and the last one at 7:30 this morning. It was a long, exchausting ordeal. She had 9 puppies, 6 boys and 3 girls. Mishka did very well and is now resting comfortably-she is very attentive to her babies. All of the puppies except one are doing well. Unfortunately, red boy is not doing well. I have been working all night and morning to keep him alive and I don't know if it is possible or not. He was born with his 2 front paws turned into the center of his body and seems to have problems eating. I have seen puppies with crooked limbs before that within a couple of days straightrned out completely so I am doing all that I can to save him. Send prayers and good thoughts my way please. All of these puppies are sold.
Feb 14-I am very sad to report that red boy died last evening despite mine and Mishka's best efforts to save him. This is the part about being a breeder that I hate. I cry every time that I lose one. It never gets any easier. Now Mishka and I are trying to concntrate on and enjoy the 8 healthy puppies. We both finally got some sleep last night so are feeling better today. Thank you to all of you who sent your prayers and kind thoughts. It is so good to know how much you all care.
The puppies are 1 week old already and boy have they ever grown! Mother and babies are all doing well. Mishka is an excellent mother and rarely leaves her pups.
The puppies are now 2 weeks old. Their eyes are open and they are starting to be more aware of their surroundings. Mishka leaves them now for short periods to go outside and chase squireerls with Diesel and Kayla. However, if she hears one of them crying, she is banging on the door immediately to be let back in. Diesel is quite interested in them and Mishka will let him have a glance at them from a couple of feet away, but growls at him if he tries to come any closer! He knows to back way off then!
A pile of puppies at 2 weeks of age!
3 weeks old. Today is a big day for Mishka and her puppies. I am going to move them out to the puppy kennel. There they will have an 8x10 heated room to run and play in. Mishka will still be able to come and go as she pleases and feed them whenever she wants. I will also be starting the pups on mushed up puppy food today. I will start out giving them this once a day and gradually work up to 4 times a day. At the same time, Mishka will gradually start to wean them as she wishes. I allow the mothers to do this naturally and on their own-they always know what they are doing! As you can see from the picture, the pups are up on their feet walking all over and are now playing with each other. They are now ready to receive visitors so phone or email to set up a puppy visit appointment if you wish. Please wear clean clothes when you come to visit and do not visit any other dogs on your way out here. These babies are still very young and vulnerable to infection so lets keep them safe!
All of my purebred German Shepherd puppies are registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, tattooed, de-wormed, vaccinated, vet-checked and come with a written guarantee, your puppy's 4 generation pedigree and copies of the parent's hip and elbow clearance certificates. You also receive 6 weeks free pet insurance, a collar and leash, a small bag of puppy food, a blanket with the mother's and littermate's scent, a small stuffed animal, a chew toy, your puppy's health record, a photo album containing pictures of the parents and a weekly picture from birth of all the puppies in the litter, as well as an envelope filled with information related to puppy care. I provide all my pups and owners with continuous after sale support and assistance. When you buy one of my pups, you will receive the benefit of my 16 years of experience training, living with and raising German Shepherds. The most rewarding part of breeding dogs for me, is knowing how much joy and love each of my pups bring to their new owners. I love hearing from them and receiving pictures of my pups in their new lives.
All of my puppies are born in my house where I can constantly watch over and monitor their growth and development. After 3-4 weeks, they are moved out to my new puppy kennel. There, they have a large heated room to run and play in, plus they have access to an outside, adjoining, grass run for more exercise. Once they are 5-6 weeks old, they are allowed to be out with 3 or 4 adult dogs, under supervision, to interact with and learn proper dog behaviour. The adults are gentle with the pups but at the same time, teach them respect and discipline. They learn that it is not a good idea to steal a bone from Grandma! They are also socialized with children and adults besides myself. I keep my pups until they are 8 weeks of age to ensure that they have learned the lessons that will make them confident adult dogs. Their new owners just have to carry on with those lessons once they take them home.
